Grow Your Own Medicine Chest Garden
Join us at the library for a special presentation with Donna d’Terra, founder and director of Motherland Botanical Sanctuary and Herb School, located in the hills outside of Willits. Donna has been teaching herbal medicine since 1989, with a focus on local, sustainable, and restorative herbalism.
This beginner-friendly program explores how to grow a home “medicine chest” garden tailored to your family’s needs. Donna will discuss the sun, soil, and growing conditions required for each plant, and how different herbs can support everyday situations—whether you have a carpenter in the family prone to cuts and bruises, children who need gentle plant allies, or loved ones with respiratory concerns.
All herbs discussed are safe to grow around children and pets, making this an ideal introduction for home gardeners of all experience levels. Featured plants include calendula, mullein, peppermint, comfrey, echinacea, California poppy, lemon balm, catnip, valerian, yarrow, rosemary, and grindelia.
Come learn how to cultivate healing plants right outside your door and reconnect with the traditional wisdom of herbal self-care.
